Obama winning Nobel Prize for Peace

I think otherwise.

(photo from Wikipedia)

  2. he should get a nobel prize for hope.

anyway, he won it because he is bringing the wind of change when it comes to international relations. kung si bush eh lahat bombahin eh sya eh lahat gusto diplomacy. he opened up dialogue to the muslim world, specifically iran. his first gesture of peace was closing guantanamo prison. he is also known in the US for his ability to bring the democrats and republicans together. his achivements are not on paper, but rather in the culture of peace.

As in Nobel Prize for HOPE, not peace. Stupid.

Do you even know what a NOBEL PRIZE for PEACE stands for? It should be awarded to relentless campaigners of human rights, equality and the ending of violence. It’s not simply an inspirational discourse but the sense they stand for something. Actions achieved or a long commitment to an ideal, often through hardship!

The reality is that the prize appears to have been awarded to Barack Obama for what he is not. For not being George W Bush. Or rather being less like the last president. The question now is whether having being anointed perhaps too early by the committee, a Nobel prize earned so cheaply and at so little cost will help him in his efforts on the international stage or rather be an albatross around his neck. Something against which all his future efforts will be judged – and perhaps found wanting.

    • alam mo, tama..

Pero naniniwala pa rin ako sa sinabi ni Master Rapper na “You can’t talk peace and have a gun”

    • ano ba talaga ang idea ng founder ng nobel peace prize when he conceptualize it?

sabi ni alfred nobel, it should be awarded to the person who “shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.”

“the most” or “the best” work? kung hindi si Obama, sino sa tingin niyo ang nakagawa ng “the most” or “the best”?

hanapin ko nga yung ibang nominees. baka mas karapatdapat nga sila.

        • unlike the nobel prize for science, awarded for the actual achivements that are printable and measurable, the nobel peace prize have been given to others for their attempts or symbolism for achieving peaceful solutions—one such of such is Jimmy Carter in 2002 for his works in the middle east. karzai was also a candidate that same year. and yet, we all know that there is no peace in the middle east. peace afterall can be a concept that is almost impossible to measure or even achive. al gore also won it in 2007 for his works in climate change and trying to bring the world community together in fighting global warming—still no peace and global warming continues. so much like with the penaflorida story, awards like these are given to those who inspired us.
