A Message from Our Founder

As an institution which strongly believes in holistic learning, Academy Of Rock (AOR) provides a conducive environment for students to build and develop their character, inspire creativity and forge lasting relationships through the process of learning.

In the 5 years that we have been in operation, AOR’s successes and achievements have exceeded all expectations. In 2011, we were awarded the Promising SME 500 2012 from Small Medium Business Association (SMBA), Singapore. We distinguish ourselves from many other music institutions by ensuring that our teachers are internationally certified to conduct music lessons. It is part of AOR’s culture to expose students to a diverse range of musical experiences as such our students are given opportunities to perform at world-class art venues locally as well as abroad.

It was a dream  come true when we launched our very own retail department with the AOR MUSIC STORE which will market our very own AOR range of instruments. These range of instruments have been carefully selected to cater to the beginners and their quality in construction and finish will prove to be the instrument of choice for any new music prodigy.

In 2012, we were presented with an opportunity to stretch our arms beyond our shores. AOR had the system, the strength and the network of support to share our expertise with the land of musical talents – the Philippines. Academy Of Rock is registered with the Ministry of Education (Singapore).

We are also the first, and only, music education centre to ever receive the award for Promising SME 500 2012 from Small Medium Business Association (SMBA), Singapore.

THE AOR CURRICULUM

AOR possesses a proprietary teaching syllabus called “The AOR Syllabus” which provides all our teachers the proper guidance and materials to conduct music classes for all levels – beginners to advanced.

The AOR Syllabus is a holistic teaching manual that better equips all AOR teachers with the tools to conduct an unforgettable learning experience.

THE AOR EDUCATOR

AOR teachers are internationally certified to conduct music lessons and they possess either a Diploma or Licentiate in Music Teaching or Performance from Rockschool and other equivalent music institutions.

ROLAND CERTIFICATION

AOR is the first and only music academy in South-East Asia to be Certified by Roland V-Drum Educators!

ROCKSCHOOL TRAINERS

AOR is Certified by Rockschool to conduct training up to Diploma Level for Rockschool UK Examinations.

THERON LIM (HAWKDRUMMER), LRSL

Meet the “World’s Youngest Distinction Holder for Diploma in Music Performance from Rockschool UK”!

THERON obtained his Diploma in 2010 and exceeded that achievement the following year with his Licentiate in Music Performance from Rockschool UK. The seasoned performer has shared the stage with many well-known drum stars and looks forward to further his passion Bass guitar where he has achieved his Grade 8.

THE AOR BAND

The AOR Band is the premier student band from Academy Of Rock comprising of talented youths hand-picked from the music school. They started out in 2009 performing for a charity show when the performance bug hit them and they have taken their talents to the stage at world-class arts venues such as The Esplanade and even overseas to Hong Kong Disneyland. For this chapter of their constantly evolving line-up, we have five young souls who are passionate about music as much as getting up on stage and rocking it out.

The AOR event and production team has successfully organized bi-yearly full-scale concerts for our students since 2007. We have seen guest artists as well as students from schools as far as Canada share the stage with our students. This has lead to invitations for our students to perform in Hong Kong Disneyland as well as Singapore’s premier arts venue, The Esplanade.

AOR has been a wonderfully encouraging place for my 3 daughters to fully realise their passion and potential for their musical talents. The out-of-classroom exposure through public performances clearly sets AOR apart as pupils get to really nurture their confidence to showcase their talent. The enjoyable pace is also coupled with a clear aim to prepare their students for formal recognition of their emerging talent, which puts us parents at ease considering the considerable investment. Most importantly, my kids truly enjoy their lessons!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Academy Of Rock. All the staff are friendly and helpful and you are made to feel welcome the instant you walk in. It seems to me that if you’d like to learn music in a professional, friendly environment, then this is the place to go. I can verify that the teachers are of a high, musical standard, having worked alongside them myself and it was an absolute pleasure to meet such talented young musicians during my time in Singapore.

AOR is a really good place for musical talents to grow. I have experienced this growth tremendously, and I really think AOR has strongly established itself as one of the best music schools in Singapore!

AOR is my family! It is one of the few places I really feel comfortable because it is where I go to do what I love – making music! It was through the concerts where I found many friends taught by other teachers, and friends whom I would not have even met if not for the concert, since we all come for classes at different times. AOR Concerts are really awesome! I love AOR!
