Di Mo Gets Ang ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE? You're Not You Movie Review #ALS #IceBucketChallenge

I dare you to watch the film “You’re Not You” by Hillary Swank. Yung mga katabi ko na fashion bloggers, hindi na mapigilan ang pag-iyak. Nakakatouch siya.

I applaud Hillary Swank and Emmy Rossum. Award winning ang pagganap nila. Bawat eksena talaga, para akong nanonood ng teleseryeng pinoy plus the correct advocacies.

Let us continue to fight ALS. Continue the research. Donate and Nominate.

Kate is a suave, successful classical pianist just diagnosed with ALS (commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Bec is a brash college student and would-be rock singer who can barely keep her wildly chaotic affairs, romantic and otherwise, together. Yet, when Bec takes a job assisting Kate, Kate sees something special in the way Bec takes care of her. Kate and Bec find each other’s strength through their weaknesses. You’re Not You explores how two strangers can bring out the best in each other even in the midst of trials and tribulations. This movie also gives face to the much talked about ALS and will definitely make people more compassionate with victim of the said disease.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s disease, and rarely Charcot disease—is a neurodegenerative disorderwith various causes. The term motor neurone disease (MND) is sometimes used interchangeably with ALS while others use it to refer to a group of similar conditions that include ALS.  ALS is characterised by muscle spasticity, rapidly progressive weakness due to muscle wasting. This results in difficulty speaking, swallowing, and breathing. The disease usually starts around the age of 60, except in cases that are directly inherited when the usual age of onset is around 50.

About 5 to 10% of cases are directly inherited from a person’s parents.  ALS is the most common of the five types of motor neuron disease.

The average survival from onset to death is three to four years.  Only 4% survive longer than 10 years, although rare cases survive 50 years or more. Most die from respiratory failure. In much of the world rates of ALS are unknown.  In Europe the disease affects about 2.2 people per 100,000 per year. In the United States, more than 5,600 are diagnosed every year, and up to 30,000 Americans are currently affected. ALS is responsible for 2 deaths per 100,000 people per year.

Descriptions of the disease date back to at least 1824 by Charles Bell. In 1869 the connection between the symptoms and the underlying neurological problems were first described by Jean-Martin Charcot who in 1874 began using the term amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.  It became well known in the United States when it affected a famous baseball player by the name of Lou Gehrig,  and later when the ice bucket challenge became popular in 2014.

Sagada Bonfire Fest, Where There is SMOKE, There is FIRE! December 27-28 2014

The Sagada Bonfire Fest is a yearly celebration of unique Igorot traditions and Cordillera culture. Set in beautiful and verdant Sagada in the heart of Mountain Province, the festival beckons to tourists and travelers to experience a fun, adventure-filled and meaningful weekend in the highlands.

Sagada Bonfire Fest

Sagada Bonfire Fest

Rooted in age-old tradition, bonfires and celebration around fire have been weaved in Igorot traditions for hundreds of years. This December 27 and 28, 2014, The Sagada Bonfire Fest rises again with a weekend of music, art and tradition, featuring performances from some of the best folk, acoustic and world music artists in the Philippines and a showcase of Igorot tribal dancing and gong playing.

It’s a true celebration of Filipino sound as we get you dancing to world, ethnic and tribal beats of Talahib People’s Music, Dayaw and the Adinkra Lumads Djembe Community. Witness a stripped down hiphop set from Ron Henley and acoustic performances from Bea Valera and Kio Priest. Get a taste of iris with sublime sounds from Red-I and Soulflower and be enchanted with Tao Aves’ and Bullet Dumas’ beautiful music.

Participating in the Sagada Bonfire Fest is truly meaningful as the event earnings benefit the incredibly talented Ganduyan Bucks, the official little league and junior baseball team of Mt. Province and representatives to the Philippine Series. The boys are incredibly talented but like many athletic programs in the country, are severely underfunded. Income raised from the event will go a long way in purchasing sports equipment, uniforms and in paying for travel expenses for out-of-town competitions.

The Sagada Bonfire Fest is presented by the Sagada Genuine Guides Association (SAGGAS), Ganduyan Bucks and the Local Government Unit of Sagada.

Ticket for the #SagadaBonfireFest will be available Nov 12 onwards at the Travel Factor Office in Manila ( and Nov 14 onwards at the SAGGAS Office in Sagada.

Ticket prices:

P350 for Music Night (Dec 27) / P250 for Cultural Night (Dec 28) / P600 for both nights
